Beatrice and Dogberry! Much Ado About Nothing

Beatrice AND Dogberry!!! Dare I dream!?! Beatrice has long been a dream role of mine, but to play her while also playing the clown... I am in heaven! Surrounded by an incredible team of seasoned and skilled performers, my heart is full performing this joyous comedy.

Playing Beatrice at this time in my life felt right. She's a little older than the typical Shakespearean lover, I don't think I was ready to have played her with the nuance required before now. Her convictions run deep and she wears her sarcasm as a protective shield. The ability to play the humor mixed with the deep emotional pain is a challenge for any performer, but what a deliciously wonderful challenge it is!

I honestly had no idea what to do with Dogberry... all those malapropisms are so fun, but who is he? How does he make sense in the context of this world? Our costume designer, Callie came in with a design based on Emperor Norton, the San Francisco legend and it just clicked. That made so much sense to me! Add on a whistle and an inside Ted Lasso joke and I felt like I had figured him out. Once the character or the clown is fleshed out, then the ability to just PLAY feels so freeing. Ah! I love it!

I will forever be grateful to director, Lisa Tromovitch for choosing me to play these parts.
